Union Members Vote in Support of Health Councils

The membership of Nova Scotia’s four acute care health unions all voted overwhelmingly to accept the Council of Union’s approach to collective bargaining agreed to by their unions and the province of Nova Scotia.

CUPE, Unifor, NSNU and NSGEU members in the Nursing, Administrative Professional, Support Services and Health Care bargaining units across the province voted over the last week on whether to accept the deal. Of those members who voted: CUPE members voted 93 per cent in favour of the bargaining council; Unifor members voted 94 per cent in favour; NSGEU members voted 98 per cent in favour; and NSNU members voted 95 per cent in favour.

“The four unions showed great leadership in working with the provincial government to resolve this issue,” said Federation of Labour President Rick Clarke.

“We are all pleased the members overwhelmingly support the efforts of their union leadership.”
